Wang Yanxin was born in November 1963. In 1984, he graduated from Nanjing University and received B Sc Degree in Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology. In 1990, he completed his six years’ graduate study at the China University of Geosciences, received a PhD degree in Hydrogeology and became a faculty member of the university. He was promoted to full professor of Hydrogeology in 1994 and as vice president of China University of Geosciences in 2000. He worked as a visiting professor at University of Waterloo (Canada) in 1998 - 1999. He has visited many countries to give lectures, attend international conferences, or to join international research program activities . He is a member of the Water-Rock Interaction Working Group of International Association of Geochemistry, and vice Chairman of Hydrogeology Committee of Chinese Association of Geology.
For more than 20 years, Dr. Wang has been actively involved in teaching and research work in hydrogeochemistry and environmental science . He is the editor-in-chief of the textbook “Groundwater Contamination” (published in 2007 by Higher Education Press of China) which has been recommended by the Ministry of Education of China as one of the “Textbooks Recommended for Graduate Studies in China”. He has been the principal investigator in more than 20 research projects and has published more than 40 research papers in peer-reviewed international journals.
Fluent both in English and in Russian, Dr. Wang has established close links with many hydrogeologists in different countries. He was chairman of organizing committees of several international conferences held in Wuhan and secretary general of the 12th International Symposium on Water-Rock Interaction (Kunming, 2007) and co-edited the symposium proceedings (1705p) published by Taylor and Francis. He was an invited plenary keynote speaker at the 34th IAH Congress (Beijing, 2006). Dr. Wang is looking forward to serving the Asian community of hydrogeologists if successfully elected as regional vice president. With his professional background and experiences of international collaboration, Dr. Wang plans to coordinate research, training and management programs in groundwater studies, particularly in groundwater quality studies in Asia, which are increasingly important for the densely populated Asian countries, in addition to fulfilling the duties to provide stewardship of IAH interests in Asia.
