Islamabad’s recharge wells offer way forward for Pakistan’s groundwater

In Pakistan, more than 70% of domestic water needs are met by groundwater, a freshwater source literally under our feet. But groundwater resources are often poorly mapped and managed, and are being depleted at alarming and unsustainable rates. Artificial groundwater recharge wells have shown early promise in Pakistan’s capital. Experts think they could help to replenish the city’s overstretched groundwater while managing urban flooding.
