FAREWELL TO PROFESSOR DR. HAB. STANISŁAW STAŚKO – HYDROGEOLOGIST, OUTSTANDING SCIENTIST AND ACADEMIC TEACHER
With deep sorrow, we received the news that on May 13, 2025, at the age of 70, Professor Stanisław Staśko passed away, a remarkable scientist and mentor of many generations of hydrogeologists.
Professor Stanisław Staśko was associated with the University of Wrocław from the very beginning of his professional career, serving among other roles as the director of the Institute of Geological Sciences and dean of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Environmental Management. By carrying out numerous and large-scale regional studies, he contributed to the understanding of groundwater flow conditions in crystalline formations in the Sudetes and throughout the Lower Silesia region. He was the author and co-author of over 160 scientific publications, supervisor of 13 doctoral theses and 83 master’s theses, a member of the Polish Geological Society and the Committee of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
A great advocate of Polish hydrogeology in the world, he actively participated in many organizations, including the American Geophysical Union and the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), which he joined in 1967 as one of the first individuals from Poland. Prof. Stanisław Staśko was involved in the work of international committees and actively supported numerous national initiatives, including scientific conferences and workshops. From 2020 to 2022, he served as the President of the Polish National Chapter, and for his outstanding and long-term contributions to the activities and development of the Association in Poland, in 2016, the general assembly of national members awarded Prof. Stanisław Staśko Honorary Membership.
For his exceptional contribution to the development of science and educational engagement, he was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit, the Silver Medal of the University of Wrocław, the Medal of the Vietnamese Academy of Sciences, and the Medal of the National Education Commission.

ŻEGNAMY PROFESORA DR. HAB. STANISŁAWA STAŚKO – HYDROGEOLOGA, WYBITNEGO NAUKOWCA I NAUCZYCIELA AKADEMICKIEGO
Z głębokim żalem przyjęliśmy wiadomość, że 13 maja 2025 r., w wieku 70 lat, zmarł Profesor dr hab. Stanisław Staśko, wspaniały naukowiec, wychowawca wielu pokoleń hydrogeologów.
Profesor Stanisław Staśko od początku aktywności zawodowej związany był z Uniwersytetem Wrocławskim, pełniąc m.in. funkcje dyrektora Instytutu Nauk Geologicznych oraz dziekana Wydziału Nauk o Ziemi i Kształtowania Środowiska. Realizując liczne i zakrojone na szeroką skalę badania regionalne przyczynił się do rozpoznania warunków krążenia wód podziemnych w utworach krystalicznych w Sudetach oraz całego regionu dolnośląskiego. Autor i współautor ponad 160 publikacji naukowych, promotor 13 doktoratów oraz 83 prac magisterskich, członek Polskiego Towarzystwa Geologicznego oraz Komitetu Nauk Geologicznych Polskiej Akademii Nauk.
Wielki orędownik polskiej hydrogeologii na świecie, aktywnie działał w wielu organizacjach międzynarodowych, w tym m.in. American Geophysical Union oraz International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), do którego dołączył w 1967 roku jako jeden z pierwszych osób z Polski. Prof. Stanisław Staśko udzielał się w pracach międzynarodowych komisji Stowarzyszenia, jak również aktywnie wspierał liczne inicjatywy krajowe, w tym konferencje i warsztaty naukowe. W latach 2020-2022 pełnił funkcję Prezesa PKN IAH, a za wybitny i wieloletni wkład w działalność i rozwój Asocjacji na terenie Polski, w 2016 r. walne zebranie członków PKN IAH przyznało prof. Stanisławowi Staśko Członkostwo Honorowe PKN IAH.
Za wybitny wkład w rozwój nauki i zaangażowanie dydaktyczne odznaczony został Srebrnym Krzyżem Zasługi, Srebrnym Medalem Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego, Medalem Wietnamskiej Akademii Nauk i Komisji Edukacji Narodowej.
