A new approach has been developed to model seawater intrusion while accounting for multiple sources of uncertainty. The proposed framework enables the development of effective groundwater management strategies for mitigating seawater intrusion in coastal areas, particularly when observational data are unavailable or limited. This approach is especially relevant to developing countries and other data-scarce regions, where the lack of reliable observations often represents a major challenge for groundwater management. The proposed approach was applied to a case study in Kuwait, where seawater intrusion poses significant environmental, economic, and social threats that may hinder the country’s long-term development. The study provides the first numerical model of the Kuwait City aquifer, which can serve as a foundation for future research and for the development of a practical tool to support sustainable groundwater management strategies in the city.
