Con profundo pesar, anunciamos el fallecimiento del Dr. José Joel Carrillo Rivera, destacado profesor e investigador, quien dejó una huella imborrable en el campo de la hidrogeología en México. Su pasión por entender y promover los sistemas de flujo subterráneo lo convirtió en un referente en la materia.
Joel fue un pensador visionario, cuyo trabajo inspiró a generaciones de académicos y estudiantes. A través de sus investigaciones, contribuyó significativamente al entendimiento de cómo el flujo de agua subterránea Tothiano se relaciona con lo que está definido como acuífero. Además, fue cofundador y primer presidente de la Asociación Internacional de Hidrogeólogos, Capítulo México.
Su legado perdurará en cada rincón que tocó, en cada conversación que estimuló, en cada estudiante que motivó y en cada mente que inspiró.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. José Joel Carrillo Rivera, an outstanding professor and researcher, who left an indelible mark on the field of hydrogeology in Mexico. His passion for understanding and promoting underground flow systems made him a benchmark in the field.
Joel was a visionary thinker, whose work inspired generations of scholars and students. Through his research, he contributed significantly to the understanding of how the flow of Tothian groundwater relates to what is defined as an aquifer. In addition, he was co-founder and first president of the International Association of Hydrogeologists, Mexico Chapter.
His legacy will live on in every corner he touched, in every conversation he stimulated, in every student he motivated, and in every mind he inspired.
