World Water Day 2026: Water and Gender

Every year, World Water Day (22 March) raises awareness and inspires action to tackle the water and sanitation crisis. It is a United Nations observance, coordinated by UN-Water and led by one or more UN-Water Members and Partners with a related mandate. In 2026, the theme of World Water Day is ‘Water and Gender’.

IAH are proud to be a member of the World Water Day 2026 Task Force, and to participate in the global public campaign to engage people in conversation and debate, raise awareness and inform decision-making across the world.

‘Discover Groundwater’ Geostory Series: IGRAC and IAH announced the new series during the AGM at the 52nd World Groundwater Congress in Melbourne. With this series, both organisations aim to make visible a key element of the water cycle that we, most of the time, do not see. By presenting photos from all over the world on a global map about groundwater’s beauty, history, use, challenges and protection, we understand that groundwater is almost everywhere and key to our planet’s sustainability. Each part of this 5-part series covers a different topic and shows examples from all over the world. The final instalment of the series will be released on World Water Day.
