Water for Peace: official celebration of World Water Day 2024
Water for Peace. World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, is an annual United Nations Observance focusing on the importance of freshwater. A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
We are pleased to invite you for a significant event hosted at UNESCO Headquarters on Thursday, 22 March 2024, from 13:00 to 18:30 (CET), to commemorate World Water Day 2024. Under the theme of "Water for Peace", the event will showcase water's pivotal role in fostering peace, prosperity, and conflict prevention.
The day's program will feature an array of activities, including the launch of the United Nations World Water Development Report 2024, speeches by representatives of UN agencies, member states and experts in the field. This will be followed by panel discussions that delve into the nexus between water management and peacebuilding. There will also be cultural and artistic activities that echo the theme, including an indoor photo exhibition and live performances.
