Groundwater Development School
Groundwater Supply. The Groundwater Development School is a 4-week comprehensive training programme in Uganda that educates graduates and water professionals on how to develop a groundwater supply. The course provides a holistic approach to groundwater supply and includes every aspect of siting, developing, managing, and monitoring a groundwater source. This is combined with a hands-on experience learning and working professionally with local contractors and a partner charity as a 'live' project to provide an appropriately sited and constructed borehole to a community.
The Groundwater Development School is a response to the high rates of borehole failure and a technical capacity gap that exists in the sector. There is a high demand and great necessity for these skills to improve sustainable water supply outcomes and this course will be hugely beneficial for those wishing to develop careers in the Humanitarian, Development and WASH sectors.
Groundwater Relief (GWR) has multiple years of experience in training groundwater professionals in borehole construction with one off drilling training courses in Bangladesh, Myanmar and several other countries. GWR founded the annual drilling school in the UK with RedR and Cranfield University. Years of feedback from course attendees has helped GWR create the Groundwater Development School syllabus in Uganda to provide a comprehensive hands-on training programme that will set participants up to thrive in this sector.
GWR’s core staff and our global volunteer membership of over 350 groundwater experts have undertaken over 100 projects in the last 5 years, with some of the world’s most vulnerable people, providing direct technical support to a range of partners including International Organisation for Migration, Oxfam, Medecins Sans Frontieres, and the British Red Cross.
