T130. Coastal and Marine Hydrogeology in an Age of Rising Seas: From the Shore to the Oceanic Ridge
Hydrogeology. Submit abstract by 19 July 2022:
This session aims to showcase theoretical and applied modeling and field studies in coastal and offshore settings around the world that consider seawater intrusion, inland flooding and hydrology, interactions with infrastructure, feedbacks with geology and ecology, tidal effects, benthic exchange, saltmarsh hydrology, and the identification of relevant parameters, boundary conditions, modeling strategies, and data collection and analysis approaches. We welcome local case studies that review broader sea level rise issues, studies that cover sea-level-rise-induced hydrological phenomena, their impacts, and methodologies for their study, studies that explore surface water/groundwater exchange, and studies that address biogeochemical implications associated with these mechanisms. There is a corresponding need for students and researchers trained in the issues and science relevant to coastal hydrogeology. Thus, we welcome contributions that address the state of and outlook for worldwide graduate and undergraduate education in coastal hydrogeology.Organised by Geological Society of America.
