  Water Quality Assessment and Monitoring

  Water quality monitoring for freshwater bodies. This is a three week course covering the design and implementation of a monitoring network for surface- and groundwater bodies. The course consists of classroom, laboratory and field-based instructions designed to explain the theory and methodology of setting up a monitoring network with a hands-on component of planning a monitoring network in your country.

  Groundwater Sampling Tools and Techniques

  Groundwater Sampling Techniques. What tools and methods can you use to meet the monitoring objectives of your groundwater program? What challenges could you face with different sampling methods? Does your methodology produce representative samples? What tools are available to measure water level, quality and flow?
  
  In these one-day workshops, you’ll get answers to these questions and learn about the benefits and limitations of different groundwater sampling techniques and monitoring equipment. At the end of the first workshop (offered on 4 June and 5 June) you'll know how to apply these insights in your sampling applications. The second workshop (5 June) focuses on continuous monitoring programs, covering both level and quality instrumentation, as well as recommendations for telemetry usage.
  
  Attendees can choose to participate for either one or two days. Those who opt for both days will receive a 20% discount.

  In Spanish: modelación hidrogeológica, teórica y práctica con software gratuito. Este curso intensivo ofrece una formación integral en modelación hidrogeológica, combinando fundamentos teóricos con un enfoque eminentemente práctico mediante el uso de herramientas numéricas y software gratuito de referencia (MODFLOW, MODPATH, MT3D, SUTRA, VS2DTI y PhreeQC). Comienza con una introducción a la modelación numérica del flujo y al entorno ModelMuse. Además, se incorpora el uso de MODFLOW mediante Python (FloPy), proporcionando una primera aproximación a flujos de trabajo automatizados y reproducibles. También se estudiará la modelación del transporte de solutos, el transporte con densidad variable, el flujo en zona no saturada y la modelación hidrogeoquímica.

  Calculation method for nitrates loads in rivers – the remainder approach

  Nitrates loads assessment in rivers using remainder technique. Work contributed to the "The World's Water - our secret Nitrogen engine" (textbook, 1st Ed. UK/compilation, Taylor & Francis 2026) is here excerpted with the permission of the authors, who share an engineering workaround for load estimation of nitrates in rivers and streams. The work was inspired by aquifer transport of nitrates in mining groundwater, when a report submitted by consultants to the Melbourne City Council, required load estimates for the Yarra.
  The course offers a simple and quick workaround for otherwise complicated equations, using a technique produced in a cross-university study for a core curriculum textbook. Course will be held in the meeting rooms at Royal Randwick, Belmore Rd - near the junction of High St UNSW Campus and the racecourse. In event of unforeseen circumstances, the course will be held in online mode, at the reduced rate of $200 pp.
