This is according to scientists at the British Geological Survey (BGS), who say despite two-thirds of England and Wales currently experiencing drought, groundwater levels remain robust and, in some areas, higher than normal.
Groundwater is stored in aquifers – layers of rock and sand beneath the surface – and supplies around a third of the UK’s public water.
