Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability (CCES) 5th Edition
The Earth's climate is shifting at an unprecedented pace, altering ecosystems, reshaping landscapes, and challenging the resilience of societies worldwide. Rising temperatures, unpredictable weather patterns, and intensifying natural disasters are no longer distant concerns but present realities affecting communities, economies, and biodiversity. As these environmental changes accelerate, the urgency to confront the causes and consequences of climate change has never been greater.
However, mitigating climate change and fostering environmental sustainability is not a challenge that can be addressed through isolated efforts. A sustainable future requires a multifaceted approach—one that integrates scientific research, policy innovation, technological advancements, and community-driven initiatives. From the transition to renewable energy and climate-resilient infrastructure to nature-based solutions and resource-efficient economies, a collective response is necessary to balance environmental preservation with societal progress.
The 5th edition of the Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability (CCES) conference, taking place online from 05 to 07 October 2025, in collaboration with Chongqing University, China, will serve as a platform for interdisciplinary exchange. Bringing together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers, this conference will explore strategies for climate adaptation, mitigation, and sustainability. Through in-depth discussions, CCES aims to contribute to global efforts in shaping a future that prioritizes environmental responsibility and long-term resilience.https://www.ierek.com/events/climate-change-and-environmental-sustainability-cces-5th-edition#introduction

10 Oct - 19 Dec 2025 – Online and Onsite at Vetralla (Italy)
The PEST course Application & Theory 2025
Groundwater Modeling. This short course is intended to help those who use a graphical user interface (GUI) for model setup, to gain familiarity with some of the principles and practicalities of calibration and uncertainty analysis. It is designed to help you get the most out of this interface when using PEST/PEST++. The course also shows how a modeler can gain access to extra inversion and uncertainty analysis functionality by going beyond the interface when required. Finally, it provides an overview of new data assimilation and uncertainty analysis technologies that will have a profound effect on the way in which decision-support modelling is undertaken, but that are actually quite easy to implement.
The course is informal. We have a plan for what we want to cover. However, in times such as these when technology is changing fast, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and confused. So, some of what we talk about, and how we talk about it, will be governed by you, the audience. Feel free to come along and discuss your problems. We will do our best to meet you where you are at!.Price: 800 €

The conference is going to cover a range of topics crucial in modern development in the area of exploration, assessment and sustainable use of mineral and thermal waters, such as: balneology and medicinal water, industrially valuable waters and acid mine drainage, bottling water industry, issues related to groundwater origin, quality and chemical composition, water-rock interaction, contaminant transport, emerging pollutants and microplastic, application of state-of-the-art methods, licensing and legal regulations.
We count on a wide participation of professionals from various countries of Europe and the world to share their experience, to shed light on real problems in the field and to make exchange of know-how more fruitful. The best presentations will have the opportunity for publication in dedicated indexed journals. The Organizing Committee supports also participation of young researchers and students giving significant discount of conference fee.
All participants of MinWat-2025 conference will have a unique opportunity to learn about mineral and thermal water resources of Turkey, to familiarize with formation of Pamukkale travertines - recognized as a World Heritage Site (along with Hierapolis), as well as to visit one of the largest in Turkey Kizildere Geothermal Power Plant.

19 Nov 2025 – Geological Society, Burlington House, London
Ineson Lecture 2025
Sustainable Groundwater: Old and New. Save the date!
The IAH-GB Chapter, together with the Hydrogeological Group of the Geological Society, London will be hosting this year’s 2025 Ineson meeting at the Geological Society, Burlington House, London. This year will be a joint event hosting both the Ineson and Darcy lectures.
The theme is:
Sustainable Groundwater: Old and New
Following the 2024 theme of droughts and floods, this year’s event will focus on the role of groundwater as a sustainable resource in relation to water scarcity. Global water use is increasing, with unequal distribution of demands across geographic areas such as those with high population and/or agricultural water use, and over time (seasonal and in periods of drought). As groundwater provides the largest overall volume of freshwater source, it has the potential to buffer these spatial and temporal variations in demand, if managed sustainably. The event will consider the opportunities and challenges in achieving this, looking at the role of historical and possible future climates as a key driver affecting both recharge and water demand, approaches to quantifying current and historical actual recharge rates and residence times, the balance between demand and long-term replenishment (including the role of fossil groundwater), and the equitable use of both groundwater and surface water resources to provide overall water security.
The 2025 Ineson Lecture will be given by Dr Bridget Scanlon, a Research Professor at the Bureau of Economic Geology, Jackson School of Geosciences, The University of Texas at Austin. Her current research focuses on various aspects of water resources, including global assessments using satellites and modeling, management related to climate extremes, and water energy interdependence. She has authored ~ or co-authored ~200 publications. Bridget's Ineson lecture will discuss the conjunctive management of surface water and groundwater to increase the sustainability of global water resources.
The 2025 Darcy Lecture will be given by Dr Grant Ferguson, a professor of hydrogeology in the Department of Civil, Geological and Environmental Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. He also holds a joint appointment in the School of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan and is an adjunct professor at the University of Arizona and University of Waterloo. His research focuses on the hydrogeology of deep groundwater systems, paleohydrogeology, the hydrogeology of the Canadian Prairies and sustainable development of groundwater resources. Grant's Darcy lecture will discuss ancient fossil groundwater systems and how their lack of sensitivity to current climate changes can make them a strategic resource, if used at appropriate rates.
There will be a number of supporting speakers on related topics, a call for posters and a panel discussion.
More information will be made available in the coming weeks.Organised by IAH-GB National Chapter & the Hydrogeological Group of the Geological Society.
