Assessing Flood Dynamics in Rivers and Riparian Wetlands: An Integrated Hydrological Approach
Riparian wetlands have a significant impact on the ecological status of rivers. Few studies link a physical representation of surface water flooding, unsaturated zone flow and subsurface flow combined with nutrient processes.
In this free, educational webinar we provide the learnings from two case studies that involved an integrated hydrological approach:
Brynemade, Odense River (Denmark)
o Examination of the controlling flow processes and nitrogen retention capacity of a restored riparian wetland.
o Development of an integrated surface water-groundwater hydrological model.
o Develop an ecological water quality model to simulate the different contributions to nitrate reduction in both the surface and subsurface.
o Determination of nitrate removal potential and investigate potential changes to
wetland design/characteristics to increase the nitrate retention capacity.
Murrumbidgee River (Australia)
o Development of an integrated flood model capable of modelling flooding in the river, floodplain and wetlands.
o Use of satellite imagery and aerial photography of flood extent to evaluate simulated flooding behaviour.
o Investigation of different model structures to understand their impact uncertainty on inundation dynamics.Price: Free
